World Cup Thoughts

This year's world cup was filled with a lot of ups and downs.

Germany's run to the semi's was awesome. I only got to see a couple of their games, but what I saw was awesome. Germany ran over England. For being a team of youngsters, they played with huge poise. Granted, the english supposed "goal" was tough for england to bounce back from, but for germany to rebound and score two more goals in the second half I was impressed.

Then, the game against Argentina was pure magic. Never have I seen such a dominating performance on such a large stage. Everyone thought this would be a highly competitive match, and for Germany to win 4-0 without any real challenge was impressive.

Germany Spain was a catastrophe. Spain dominated from the get go with germany really never looking like they had a chance. klose's ball to Ozil at the end of the first half should've put us up, but Ozil, as was typical throughout the tournament, botched his touch and couldn't get off a good shot. I don't understand how people like him and how he was nominated for tourney mvp. Every game I watched he dribbled too much, constantly lost the ball, and just looked weird. He reminded me of Frodo from LOTR after he was stabbed by the evil guy's sword and was just really pale. THat was Ozil. Terrible and not deserving of the praise that they lamented on him in the 3rd place game.

3rd place game coincidentally was one of the great games of the tourney. Uruguay played amazingly and germany was even better without playing key players (podolski, lahm, klose)

USA played splendidly as well, minus the fact that they went down after about 5 minutes in every game. THat was annoying, but they made up for it by winning the group. I'm still shocked about the number of people that came out to support their run. I was very happy to go to the bier garten in albany and see the place filled and the entire block shut off so we could watch the game under tents in the street. SWEET

two things really irked me about the tournament.

1) the diving. I have never seen so much diving from any team besides the italians. The italians I expect it from and despise, but from every other team it was a shock. It really disrupted the pace of the game and made me detest soccer. It made everyone look weak and like whiners. THats not how you play.

2) suarez from uruguay did not deserve to be booed for keeping his team in the tourney. His handball single handedly (haha) kept uruguay in the tourney. Ghana would have gone through if not for him giving them the chance, and I can't believe people were mad about that.

ok, class is over but i do have some more thoughts i'll write later.

Until then,

CHICKEN BEFORE EGG!!!!

breaking news today on cnn.com

researchers have apparently discovered that certain proteins in chickens ovaries helps speed the production of the eggshell so that in 24 hours an egg is ready to be laid; apparently, eggs cannot be produced without this protein. so apparently, the chicken came before the egg....maybe.
i thought this was funny and also, it highlights the fact that randomness can lead to interesting results. The scientists conducting the experiment were trying to figure out how the shell is formed so they can use the technology for other applications.

Really, this could be an ideal solution for a lot of everday problems. We could eliminate the use of plastic bubbles for future bubble boys, and simply grow an egg to surround them. We could create egg exoskeletons for soldiers! maybe if we isolate this protein and develop it enough we could instantaneously have an egg protective shell wherever we wanted it! or maybe instead of having a woman be pregnant for 9 months, we could have babies develop inside of eggshells! how cool would that be?

seriously though, novel discovery that i'm sure will have some kind of interesting ramifications, although nothing will ever happen. Except now, they've kind've spoiled the riddle.

YURP

So, i thought i'd join in on this blogging craze every seems to be into. Seems like a good idea to stay in touch and it might require me to think about what i do on a daily basis and see if i'd like to continue in that current trend.

right now i'm sitting in class, carefully paying attention mother, like i do every night. work 8-5, class 6-930 every day except no class on friday. It's been a fun summer so far though.....seriously, actually. Weekends seem to last forever, classes aren't very hard so I'm succeeding without too much effort....or maybe thats just in comparison to law school classes. The only thing that's tough is staying in shape.....not finding much gym time, and soccer only happens once a week. I play on a soccer team too btw.....sunday afternoons and evenings with some pretty decent players in a capital district league. Its pretty fun. and i joined a team on thursday evenings for the next 2 weeks while i have off from thursday class. We finished our semester early so when my friend donny asked me to play i said of course. Its indoor on turf so we have lights and dont have to burn in the sun.....but it's really hot there anyway. we're in the 1st league out of five leagues. 1st being the hardest, whoo. we lost our first game 7-6. not terrible since most ppl didn't know each other. yet i digress.....

wow, this post is all over the place. Let's sum it up:

i'm working, taking classes, and playing soccer. and this is how my blog will be.....random and unorganized....because i'm tired of making things look professional all day and i need a break. Hence Frito's page.

PS,
i hope you like the irony in the name of my blog.....i may have just gotten you to read my whole post. HA
